Why Collectors Trust Wood-N-Lead: Stories from the Community
Pull up a chair and stay a while! You know, I spend a lot of time out here in the shop with just the hum of the table saw and the smell of fresh sawdust for company. It’s a quiet life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. People ask me all the time, “Brian, why do you put so much work into a piece of wood just to hold a gun?” Well, it’s simple. I’m not just making a wooden pistol stand. I’m building a home for a piece of history!
In the world of firearm collecting, I’ve met some of the finest folks you could ever hope to know. Whether you’re a seasoned collector with a room full of relics or a hobbyist who just picked up their first replica, you all share one thing: pride. And let me tell you, I take a whole lot of pride in making sure your pride and joy looks its absolute best!
Today, I wanted to step away from the workbench for just a minute to share some of the stories and kind words I’ve received from our little community. It’s the feedback from folks like you that keeps my gears turning and my sawdust flying!
The Fun Has Begun!
When I first started Wood-N-Lead, I was just testing the waters. I knew I wanted to create something better than those generic plastic racks or dusty old cabinets. I wanted a custom display plaque that felt like it belonged in a museum!
I’ve done a little bit of everything in my life, but "craftsman" is the one that fits the best. Every piece of wood that comes across my bench, whether it’s for a Colt Army Model 1860 or an 1858 Remington, is treated with the same level of respect. I cringe at the thought of a beautiful historical firearm sitting in a drawer or, worse yet, leaning against a wall where it can get scratched up.
Metal Belongs on Metal, Not on Your Finish!
Let’s talk turkey for a second. If you’re looking for a firearm display, you’ve got to think about protection. Some use bare wood or, even worse, metal hooks.
That is a bad idea, plain and simple.
You put a heavy revolver on a bare hook, and you’re just asking for a scratch. I’ve seen it happen, and it breaks my heart every time! That’s why every single Wood-N-Lead display features our signature felt-covered pegs.
- Soft touch? You bet.
- Protective? Like a mama bear.
I make sure those pegs are positioned just right to cradle your firearm without putting stress on the frame. It’s that museum-quality attention to detail that sets us apart. We don't do "cases" here, we do open-air displays that let the wood and the steel breathe!
A History Lesson on Your Wall
One of the things folks seem to love most is the artificially aged cardstock I include with every custom display plaque. I spend hours researching the history, specifications, and stories behind these firearms. I want your guests to walk up, see your display, and not have to ask, "What is that?"
The information is right there, looking like it was pulled straight out of an 1870s newspaper! It adds that "old-timey" feel that you just can't get from a laser-printed label. It’s about the soul of the piece, folks!
Real Stories from the Workbench
I’m always humbled when a package lands on a customer’s doorstep and I get a message back. I’m not much of a professional photographer (as you can probably tell from some of my shop floor shots!), so seeing my work in your homes and man-caves is a real treat.
Here is what some of the folks in our community have been saying:
"Beautiful display. The historical information is great for the inevitable “what’s that?” questions when you have a gun on display. Brian himself is a pleasure to communicate with and stands behind his work 100%. Now I have two smoke monsters on display. Many thanks!"
"Smoke monsters", I love that! Whether it's black powder or a modern replica, seeing them displayed like that makes all the sanding and staining worth it.
And then there are the collectors who keep coming back. I often speak with a gentleman who has become a real regular:
"I just received my 18th and 19th free standing plaque from wood-n-lead and could not be happier. Brian has always done an outstanding job and I plan on ordering at least 3 more soon."
Nineteen displays? Well, as of this writing, I just mailed off numbers 41 and 42! Now, that is a collection I’d love to show you Here is a picture of his collection at a recent TGCA event.

It’s a real honor to know that my work is lining the walls of a serious collector. It tells me I’m doing something right.
The Extra Mile: Communication and Shipping
I’ve always believed that a business should feel like a conversation between neighbors. When you order a wooden pistol stand from me, you’re not just a number in a spreadsheet. I’ll likely send you an email or two just to make sure we’ve got the stain exactly how you want it, be it a rich dark early american or a bright, clean light pine.
And don’t even get me started on shipping! I’ve seen how those mail carriers handle boxes. It’s enough to make a grown man cry! That’s why I pack every display like it’s a crate of eggs.
As another customer put it:
"The display for 1860 Colt Army Revolver is great. It displays very well with an original Colt 1860 Army revolver. Very satisfied. Would buy other models in the future. Great seller. It is beautifully crafted and will display my pistol like wise. Thank you for packaging it with care to avoid any damage in shipping. I am 100% satisified with my purchase."
Satisfied folks are the best kind of advertisement! I’m a firm believer in the old-fashioned way of doing things. You treat people right, you give them a product that’ll last a lifetime, and you stand by it.
Your Partner in Collecting
I’m always looking for ways to improve. Maybe you have a rare firearm that needs a special fit? Or maybe you have an idea for a new stain color? I’m all ears! This community is what makes Wood-N-Lead special. I’m just the guy with the tools, but you’re the ones with the passion for history.
I’ve got plenty of new projects in the works, and I’m always adding to our inventory. If you’re looking for the perfect gun collector gifts for a friend (or just a little something for yourself, I won’t tell!), come on by and see what’s new.
Well, the shop is calling my name. I’ve got a batch of plaques that need another coat of clear before the day is out. Thank you all for the support, the stories, and for letting me be a small part of your collection.
I’ll keep going the extra mile for a customer’s smile!
Stay safe and keep 'em shining,
Brian
